Immigration application processing times have recently changed. If you live in Middle Tennessee, the Memphis field office adjudicates many petitions and applications filed for immigration benefits. We recently heard from the Field Office Director on how long you may wait to have your paperwork processed.
Immigration Petitions and Applications
The Memphis USCIS Field Office adjudicates many different types of immigration petitions and applications. If you are filing for permanent residency based on marriage or other family relationship, or you are filing for naturalization, your case will be handled by the Memphis office.
Current Wait Times
While the Memphis office strives for a 6-month wait time for most applications, currently the average wait times are longer:
I-485 Application to Adjust Status or Register Permanent Residence: 8 months
N-400 Application for Naturalization: 9 months
I-130 Petition for Alien Relative: 10 months
Hiring an Attorney
Hiring an attorney can cut down your wait time due to your application containing all the necessary information, being organized, and containing important legal arguments or information if your case needs it. Without an attorney’s advice, you could be submitting incorrect information, or leaving out critical information, that can have a permanent impact on your ability to receive immigration benefits.
